Finally achieved this title, after many many chocobo races, and a few other grinds!
Here are a few things I learned…
The fastest way to get 500 wins in Chocobo Racing is going up against the NPCs in Sagoli Road. If you queue for the ‘Party (No rewards)’ race, you obviously don’t get any MGP, but you also don’t ever get put against other players and don’t have to wait in the queue, so it’s much quicker. Other players might be trying to win (crazy!!) or they might just hang at the back and waste time as they take forever to finish.
You’ll get used to seeing the NPCs. Star Breaker has been a worthy rival! If you get a Hero Tonic item, save it in case the NPCs drop a choco meteor on your head. Otherwise, cut corners and sprint the whole way if your ‘bo can manage it.
Another long grind is the “Always bet on me” achievement for winning 1,000 Triple Triad roulette matches. This one has confusing wording, but it means you need to win 1000 matches with the “roulette” rule in place (nothing to do with tournaments!). The easiest way is to challenge Rowena in Mor Dhona with a deck that can counter hers. I used Hraesvelgr, F’lhaminn, Siegfried, Azulmagia, and Pazuzu. Then it’s just a test of patience…. Roulette rules means any of the rules can be used, so if reverse comes up, it tends to just waste your time.
The other Triple Triad achievement is the Bracket Breaker, for winning 100 Triple Triad tournament matches. This refers to the weekly tournament, NOT the open tournament (why can’t this be more clearly worded?!) It’s timegated since you can only battle 20 times per week in the weekly TT tournaments, but it’s nothing compared to the lottery achievements!
The other achievements include:
Enemy at the Gate III: Successfully complete 100 gates. Not much to say. Just hang around the Gold Saucer and do every Gate that comes up.
WTFungah III: Win 10 times in “Any Way the Wind Blows”. It’s pure RNG, so a bit annoying, but at least it’s only 10 times. Yoshi P could have made this one a lot worse. This Gate only ever appears at XX:20 server time, so don’t waste your time going to check the other Gates.
Work Smarter, Not Harder: Win a cumulative 1,000,000 MGP from the Jumbo Cactpot. This is the longest grind by far, unless you get lucky and win the jackpot. It takes years if you only get consolation prizes (sob).
Mountains out of Gil-hills: Win a cumulative 1,000,000 MGP from the Mini Cactpot. It’s a bit less RNG than Jumbo, since you can try to optimise your chance of winning. I usually pick the numbers in a Y shape (rotated 90 degrees depending on what you start with). Go for 1-2-3 or 7-8-9 and pray. Good luck….
